Vocational Training

AFAC NEWS

Vocational Training

As we look ahead to 2018, we are excited to share several opportunities that will strengthen families, create economic growth, and bring hope to communities in both eSwatini (formerly Swaziland) and Tanzania.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we continue to invest in sustainable solutions that empower communities to build brighter futures. From vocational training and agriculture to clean water and child sponsorship, each initiative helps create lasting change.

Vocational Training Creates New Opportunities

One of our key priorities this year is expanding access to vocational training for young adults in eSwatini.

In 2018, AFAC will send three additional young adults to receive vocational training. While education provides an important foundation, vocational skills equip individuals with practical tools that can lead directly to employment, entrepreneurship, and financial independence.

As these young adults gain valuable skills, they will be better positioned to support themselves, strengthen their families, and contribute to their communities. Furthermore, vocational training creates opportunities that can have a ripple effect for generations.

Vocational Training and Economic Growth Work Together

At the same time, our community cooperatives continue to develop new ways to improve food security and economic stability.

This year, cooperative members will establish another community garden next to a newly installed AFAC well. Access to reliable water makes year-round farming possible and reduces the challenges caused by drought conditions.

As a result, this new garden will provide fresh food for approximately 250 additional people. Moreover, it will create opportunities for families to generate income through the sale of surplus produce.

Communities are also adapting to the ongoing drought that has affected much of eSwatini. Many families have lost cattle due to harsh conditions. Therefore, local leaders are shifting their focus toward raising goats, which are more resilient in dry climates.

This initiative will benefit another 40 individuals through small business opportunities. In addition, goats provide both milk and meat, creating valuable sources of nutrition and income.

Building Opportunity in Tanzania

Meanwhile, exciting work continues to grow in Tanzania.

AFAC is supporting a new church plant in an unreached area where local believers are sharing the Gospel and serving their community. We believe that healthy communities are strengthened through both spiritual and practical support.

Additionally, we are helping 80 women launch small businesses. These opportunities allow mothers and caregivers to earn income, provide for their children, and build greater financial stability.

Furthermore, AFAC will install a clean water well that will improve access to safe water while supporting future agricultural projects. Once operational, the well will help local families establish gardens that can improve nutrition and create additional economic opportunities.

Supporting Children Through Sponsorship

Our child sponsorship program remains at the heart of our mission.

Today, more than 100 children in a remote area of eSwatini receive support through this program. These communities continue to face significant challenges due to drought, crop failure, and food insecurity.

Because of faithful sponsors, children have access to nutritious food, education, healthcare, and caring adults who invest in their future. As a result, they can focus on learning, growing, and reaching their full potential.

Looking Forward

As we enter this new year, we are encouraged by the progress already taking place. Vocational training, clean water projects, agricultural development, church partnerships, and child sponsorship are transforming lives.

Thank you for standing with us as we continue to empower communities, strengthen families, and create opportunities for lasting change throughout Africa.
