AFAC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2006 by Heidi Lum. We provide clean water, education, nutrition, and sustainable development programs to orphaned and vulnerable children formally in eSwatini (Swaziland) and currently in Tanzania.

Our programs are currently located in rural communities in Tanzania, where children face the greatest challenges due to poverty, disease, and limited resources. We operated in eSwatini (Swaziland) for 18 years. Our Headquarters are located in Waitsburg, WA.

Heidi Lum founded AFAC after a calling to serve orphans in Africa. Inspired by firsthand experiences in Swaziland, she established the organization to provide holistic, sustainable support for children and their communities. Read more here.

Yes, AFAC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. All donations are tax-deductible in the United States.

Donations can be made securely online through our Donate page. Additionally, you can sponsor a child, give in honor of someone, or contribute to specific projects.

Yes, all donations to AFAC are fully tax-deductible under U.S. law.

Your donation directly supports children’s basic needs, education, clean water projects, nutrition programs, sustainable agriculture, community empowerment initiatives, church planting, and more.

Sponsorship provides a child with school tuition at an English medium school, books, food, healthcare, and mentorship. Sponsors periodic receive updates, photos, and letters from the children they support. You are more than welcome to sponsor more than one child.

AFAC currently organizes immersive trips called “Journeys of Hope” to Tanzania. Volunteers assist with school projects, clean water initiatives, and community development programs. Pastors and teachers are welcome as well, to support our local communities.

Trips vary in length from one week to two weeks and focus on education, community projects, church planting and cultural immersion. As time permits a safari can be added to the trip as well.

Trips typically include arrangement of accommodations, meals, transportation within the region, and guidance from AFAC staff. Volunteers are responsible for these costs and the cost of their international flights and visa. Guidance is provided through the pre-travel process.

No prior experience is required. We welcome volunteers of all skill levels who are eager to serve and to learn and have a heart for people.

AFAC focuses on clean water, education, nutrition, income generation, sanitation, and emotional well-being for orphaned and vulnerable children and their communities. We have completed 18 years of work in eSwatini and are now fully focused on our work in Tanzania. We are building a preschool and are currently working on 2 church plants and a clinic.

We work alongside local leaders, train caregivers, and implement income-generating initiatives like agriculture, livestock, and small businesses to create long-term impact. Working to empower the local leaders is the most sustainable way to create impact!

Communities are selected based on need, opportunity for sustainable impact, and partnership with local leaders and churches. We pray and let God lead and create partnerships.

We track the number of children served, access to clean water, educational outcomes, food security, and the success of income-generating projects, reporting results to donors regularly.
