This Devotional for mission teams is designed to help you prepare your heart before you ever step on a plane. Mission trips are more than flights, packing lists, and itineraries. When mission teams step into a new culture, humility becomes essential. It’s easy to arrive with plans, strategies, and solutions. But Scripture reminds us that the posture of Christ is not dominance. it is servanthood.
Jesus did not cling to position or power. He stepped into humanity. He listened. He served. He gave.
A mission team that embraces this mindset is teachable. And teachable hearts experience transformation far beyond what any itinerary could produce!
As mission teams we arrive eager to build, teach, and accomplish everything on a schedule. However, plans shift. Sometimes, local community leaders need to adjust the timeline due to unforeseen circumstances. They might simply invite the team to sit, share meals, and listen instead.
At first, it will feel inefficient.
But we have found that this change of pace makes room for something beautiful to happen. Walls come down. Stories are exchanged. Trust is built. And when the work resumes, it carries deeper meaning because relationship came first.
Sometimes the greatest impact of a mission trip isn’t what you accomplish – it’s how you show up.
When you lead with humility instead of urgency, you create space for God to move in the most unexpected ways. He is by far, entirely more creative than we are!
As you prepare for your mission experience, remember:
God has already been at work long before your team arrives. Your role is not to bring Him there. It is to join what He is already doing!

Dear Lord,
Thank You for the privilege of being sent. Prepare our hearts before we prepare our bags – teach us how to recognize pride, impatience, and distraction in our own hearts. Teach us to serve with humility and with Your love. Protect our unity as a team and give us boldness to represent You well. Help us see people the way You see them and help us preserve and protect their dignity. And may everything we do point back to You.
